Day Tripping from Millicent

Southend - 26km - 20 min

This quiet cray fishing port is the host of the largest fleet of fishing vessels on the Limestone Coast. Discover sheltered beaches, magnificent limestone cliffs of Cape Buffon and the many walking trails.

Beachport - 35km - 25 min

Walk or fish the second longest jetty in South Australia. Among the species caught are salmon, mulloway, mullet and whiting.

Beachport's Bowman Scenic Drive and Pool of Siloam (Salt Lake)

A scenic drive with many lookout areas follows the spectacular rugged coast of the Southern Ocean. Along Bowman Scenic Drive you will see the Pool of Siloam which is a salt lake supposedly seven times saltier than the sea and reputed to relieve sufferers of arthritis and rheumatism. The high salt concentration in the water makes swimming very easy.

Woakwine Cutting - 10km North of Beachport

As Australia's biggest one-man engineering feat the cutting was created to drain swamp land for pastoral use. A viewing platform and picnic area has been established at the head of the cutting.

Robe - 80km - ¾ hour

Visit the Old Gaol, Obelisk, Beacon Hill Lookout Tower or visit the Little Dip Conservation Park.

Penola - 52km - ½ hour

Visit the Mary Mackillop Interpretive Centre or take a walk down Petticoat Lane, the oldest residential part of Penola.

Coonawarra Wine Region - 61km - 40 min

The rich red terra rossa soil, pure underground water and a long, cool ripening season, combine to produce Coonawarra's world famous wines which visitors are invited to taste at over 20 Cellar Doors.

Naracoorte - 102km - 1 hr

Naracoorte Caves National Park, a World Heritage area offers a variety of cave tours including Victoria Fossil Cave, Alexandra Cave, Bat Tour, Wet Cave and Adventure Caving.

Mt Gambier - 49km - ½ hour

Not to be missed is the Blue Lake, Valley Lake, Umpherston Sinkhole, Cave Gardens and Engelbrecht Cave.
